The Randomness of the Internet

It's time to take a look at the randomness of the internet. I mostly pulled these comments off of Facebook stories and YouTube videos. These are some of the most random (and some of the silliest) comments on the web. So... Um... Check it out!!

The real person who started all of this was Kobe jumping ship from addidas to nike. I mean how disrespectful can you be to choose the better team instead of stay with addidas and take on nike like a man!!

He pooped in the urinal. I know the batboy.

He probably told Ventura to go take orders in a drive thru. I'd send him home too, that's an insult to drive thru workers.

Still crying about that guy in left field giving Vmart signs

He still does that. Just sub out the exercise bike for a bench and teammates for bystanders.

this should be Vladimir Putin's intro music before he gives a speech lmao

IT'S RAPING TIME WITH THIS SONG!!!

I feel like I can conquer Russia and Iran after hearing this song.

generic stock music but awesome generic stock music.

The day i lost my virginity i walked out of the room feeling like Goldberg with this song in the background. It was victory lol

Worst Hashtags in Sports

With the advent of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites comes the concept of the 'hashtag' or this symbol: #. Originally, it was known as the pound sign on old phones. However, it has taken on a new meaning in recent years. In fact, sports franchises have used this hashtag to create ingenious slogans, mostly for winning affairs. However, there are some hashtags that are questionable at best. Here are some of the worst hashtags that have popped up.

  1. Toronto Raptors, #WeTheNorth: Did DJ Khaled come up with this hashtag? It sounds so offbeat and goofy.
  2. Oakland Athletics, #GreenCollar: If a hashtag's meant to represent a hard-working team, what does that make this below-.500 club? At least they're trying?
  3. New England Patriots, #DefendTheWall: Personally, I like #DoYourJob a lot better for the Patriots since it defines their philosophy as a team (aside from the cheating). This hashtag is mainly used with the DeflateGate spectacle involving Tom Brady. Sounds barbaric.
  4. Carolina Panthers, #KeepPounding: It sounds more like a sexual innuendo than a hashtag.
  5. Houston Rockets, #RedNation: To be fair, the hashtag sounds good since the Rockets are red. However, there are plenty of teams that are using this hashtag.

The NBA: Where "Parity" Happens

Parity (par-i-tee): Equality, as in amount, status, or character.

That is the definition of the word 'parity'. It's a favorite sight among sports fans who are tired of seeing teams like the Yankees and the Patriots win all the time. It's what comes with being an admirable underdog.
Yet, the NBA seems to have a hard time with the concept of 'parity' compared to the other four major sports. From 1984 to 2014, eight different NBA teams won the Larry O'Brien trophy. Eight. Yes, the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers are a breath of fresh air with regards to the trend of champions in the NBA. However, there seems to be a power shift gravitating towards particular teams in the NBA.
In a league that banks heavily on superstars, the NBA and Adam Silver are faced with a daunting issue: the concept of the "Superteam". While this concept has actually been around for quite some time, this idea has manifested itself into a grotesque driving force for championship teams.
With Kevin Durant agreeing to a two-year, $54.3 million deal with a player option in the second year with the Warriors, the NBA landscape has gradually shifted in Golden State's favor. Now there are rumors of his ex-Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook joining forces with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford in Boston or tagging along with Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge in San Antonio. All of the sudden, an NBA Finals contender in Oklahoma City is quickly being gutted. Not only that, but the 2017 NBA Finals (at least on paper) looks to be Golden State and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
You can bring up Dwayne Wade and Dwight Howard returning home to their respective hometowns as examples of 'parity' in the NBA. However, what will happen to the likes of the Washington Wizards and the Portland Trail Blazers, teams with one mega star? The Wizards were in the mix for Durant early, but bailed. Portland actually has a budding backcourt with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCullough. What will happen when Lillard and John Wall hit the free-agent market?
What will happen to places like Charlotte and Denver, areas that aren't exactly the places to be? What will teams like the Thunder do after they not only lose one superstar, but are on the verge of losing another? These issues will have to be addressed by Silver, the NBA player's union, and the owners when they go over the new CBA. Maybe the NBA can go the MLB route and give an extra draft pick to a team that loses a superstar to free agency. For example, if Golden State signs Kevin Durant, then the Warriors forfeit their pick and the Thunder pick up a draft pick..
Until then, the rest of the NBA better brace themselves. The Golden State Warriors are coming.

America Runs on Duncan

One of the NBA's greatest power forwards of all time retired yesterday. Tim Duncan decided to call it a career after 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs (the only team he's ever played for). He's retiring as a five-time NBA champion (he has more championships than 26 teams in the NBA), a two-time MVP, a three-time NBA Finals MVP, a 15-time NBA All-Star, and an NBA Rookie of the Year. The Big Fundamental averaged 19 PPG, a FG percentage of .506, and 10.8 RPG during his career.
Tim Duncan went out the only way Tim Duncan could: without a lot of fanfare. To celebrate Duncan's illustrious career, I've compiled a few of Tim Duncan's greatest dunks ever.

Why You Should Still Watch UFC 200

Jon Jones faced an unfortunate fate yesterday when he was pulled from UFC 200's main event with Daniel Cormier due to a potential anti-doping violation. This puts a damper on a stacked card and will impact the pay-per-view buys that the UFC will get this weekend. Considering that Conor McGregor won't be in the card, this'll make things worse. Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have one of UFC's most intense rivalries and a terrific storyline.
So why should you pay your hard-earned money to watch an event that doesn't feature one of the best UFC fighters of all-time (and McGregor)? Here are five reasons why:

  1. The Return of Brock Lesnar: Lesnar (5-3) makes his UFC return after going back to the WWE. The former heavyweight champion will fight for the first time since 2011 as he'll face Mark Hunt (12-10-1). How will Lesnar look with all the time he's had off from the octagon?
  2. Miesha Tate's Title Fight: Granted, she isn't fighting Ronda Rousey for the Women's Bantamweight title. But Dana White and UFC believe that Tate (18-5) deserves the main event status. It'll be her job to show that she's worthy of being in the main event as she'll try to dispose of Amanda Nunes (12-4) and retain her title.
  3. Jon Jones's Replacement for the Cormier Fight: It's none other than Anderson Silva (33-7), who last fought Michael Bisping in February. The fight will be three rounds since Silva's fighting on two day's notice. However, having "The Spider" replace Jones isn't bad and should make for a pretty solid bout.
  4. The Featherweight Championship Bout: If you're looking for another fight to get hyped up about, look no further. Frankie Edgar (20-4-1) will face Jose Aldo (25-2) for the Men's Featherweight title in a fight featuring two big names. Aldo's been involved in fights with McGregor and Edgar is looking for revenge against Aldo after losing their 2013 fight by unanimous decision.
  5. Sage Northcutt: The upstart Northcutt (7-1) looks to solidify his standing as a threat in the UFC as he takes on Enrique Martin (8-3). Northcutt is one of UFC's up-and-coming fighters and should be a star in the future.

MLB Midseason Report Card

It's hard to believe that we're already halfway through the MLB season. It's proof that time certainly flies by. However, that doesn't mean that there's been a lack of storylines and surprises. Here's a look at some of the teams that are making the grade and those who are bombing miserably.

Exceeding Expectations:
Cleveland Indians: What can be said for a team that just went on a 14-game winning streak? The Indians are taking after the NBA Champions in the Cleveland Cavaliers and are playing clutch. The pitching blew opposing staffs out of the water for the month of June, posting an MLB-best ERA of 2.42. During the month of June, they held opponents to a batting average of .213 and pitched four shutouts.
Baltimore Orioles: Speaking of the month of June, the Orioles set a major league record for most home runs in a single month with 56 in June. Many pundits picked Baltimore to finish last in the AL East, but the O's have powered their way beyond such predictions. The offense has been productive thanks to the likes of Manny Machado (.331 BA, 18 homers, 50 RBI) and Mark Trumbo (23 homers, 60 RBI). But it hasn't just been the thunderous bats that have provided a spark. The bullpen has been one of the best with a shutdown closer in Zach Britton (0.78 WHIP, 0.81 ERA, 23 saves) and terrific set-up men.
Seattle Mariners' lineup: The Mariners' offense hasn't been known for producing anything of any sort in the past few years... until now. Currently seventh in runs scored, Seattle's offense has seen a renaissance from the late 1990's-early 2000's. The lineup has seen the resurgence of Robinson Cano, who is batting .301 with 19 homers and 54 RBIs. Other key contributors include Nelson Cruz (21 homers, 56 RBI) and Kyle Seager (16 homers, 52 RBI). The Mariners are drilling the ball, having the second-most homers in MLB (122) behind only Baltimore.
Going Just as Planned:
Chicago Cubs: Although the Cubs have had some struggles as of late, they still have a commanding lead in the NL Central. The rotation is the best in baseball and the youngsters like Kris Bryant (23 homers) are killing the ball. National Legaue competition like the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals look to derail Chicago's hopes of ending the Curse of the Billy Goat. However, expect the Cubs front office to address whatever issues arise.
Texas Rangers: The Rangers might be exceeding expectations a bit, sitting comfortably atop the AL West. But that's mainly because the Houston Astros stumbled out of the gate. Although many of their starters are currently injured, Cole Hamels (9-1, 2.60 ERA, 102 SO) and crew have done a nice job of preventing utter chaos in Arlington. As for the lineup, Ian Desmond (.320 BA, 15 homers, 52 RBI, .372 OBP) has been a welcome addition to a good lineup.
San Francisco Giants: It is an even year, which means that the San Francisco Giants are competing for a World Series title. The Giants have found a formidable yin to Madison Bumgarner's yang in Johnny Cueto (12-1, 2.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 107 SO). If Jeff Samardzija (9-8, 3.97 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) can improve his performance a bit, watch out for San Francisco come October.
Disappointments:
Houston Astros: This is mostly due to their 17-28 start, as Houston is now in the thick of a wild-card chase. However, that isn't to say that Houston is without any faults. Reigning Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel (1.42 WHIP, 5.13 ERA) has been subpar so far along with most of the rotation. The lineup also has its issues, striking out the most in the majors (761 SO). Still, the Astros are turning things around and will be in the hunt as long as they have Jose Altuve (.355 BA, 14 homers, 49 RBI, 21 stolen bases), George Springer (17 homers, 48 RBI), and a resurgent Carlos Correa (13 homers, 51 RBI).
New York Mets: The defending National League champions have the 2nd-best team ERA (3.31) in baseball, aided by Jacob DeGrom and Noah Syndergaard. So how come they're scratching and clawing with other teams for the second wild-card spot instead of competing for the NL East? One reason is Matt Harvey. Harvey has struggled for most of the season, posting an ERA of 4.55 and a WHIP of 1.40. Another reason is they really miss Daniel Murphy. The Mets are 28th in runs scored (294) and are batting .234 as a team. Having Yoenis Cespedes (.291 BA, 20 homers, 47 RBI) is nice. But what good will it do for the Mets if Cespedes is the only one who's contributing in the lineup?
St. Louis Cardinals: Normally, the Cardinals are ahead of the pack in the playoff picture. However, St. Louis finds itself on the outside looking in in terms of October baseball. You can point to Trevor Rosenthal's recent struggles as a closer as a problem. Or you can point to Michael Wacha (4-7, 4.42 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) and Adam Wainwright (4.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) struggling this season. Or you can point to the bats going silent in June (114 runs scored and a .241 BA in the month of June). Anyways, the Cardinals will be out of the postseason hunt if they don't turn things around quickly.
